MAY 5, 2019 - LIVE IMPROVISATION WITH CHRISTIAN FREDERICKSON
Upcoming performance collaboration with Christian Frederickson, improvisational music for dance at the Totts Gap Institute here in Eastern Pennsylvania. I had the pleasure of working with Christian in several sessions presented by SITI Company for their viewpoints training workshops that take place every summer on the Skidmore campus in Saratoga Springs, NY. Thanks to an invitation from cellist extraordinaire Eve Miller, who is also Christian’s long-time friend and collaborator, I was invited to join the live music aspect of this live, organic, mercurial exchange. The sessions with Christian, Eve, and the SITI company members remain a high water-mark for me.
When the opportunity came up for a similar experience at Tott’s Gap Institute, I naturally wanted to revisit this magic; only now with dancers instead of actors, and as a duo with Christian. There is no more satisfactory rush than the improvisation with them; intent listening and action/reaction with live movement.
”Muse” is An Award winning concert series of improvised fine and performing arts. Live music accompanies live improvised dance. Artists are invited to document, in real time, the movement and sound. This program was supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
